Hong Kong is a coastal city and ferris were one of the most important public transportation connecting Kowloon and Hong Kong Island, as well as outlying islands (e.g.Peng Chau, Cheung Chau, Lamma Island and Lantau Island, including Discovery Bay). Many locals still use ferris as it is cheap. As for tourist, is a way to enjoy a scenic ride across the harbour. It is also the if you are interested in outlying islands. Here we list a few popular routes for your reference,
Kowloon <-> Central / Wanchai
These 2 routes are operated by Star Ferry, connecting Kownloon with Central and Wanchai. It is cheap and you can enjoy the view on both sides of Victoria Harbour. We recommend you to take at night as the night scenic is impressive.
Wanchai Ferry service starts from around 7:30am-11:00pm, and Central starts from 6:30am-11:30pm. Cost per ride is HK$2.5/adult and HK$1.5/child on weekdays, and HK$3.4/adult and HK$2.1 Child on Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays.
It is recommended to avoid peak hour from 8am-9:30am and 6pm-7:30pm since it would be very very crowded.
